Desam bought power at exorbitant rate, says Jagan Mohan Reddy
Hyderabad: Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that the TD government was involved in scams in power purchase.
Taking part in the debate on power demand in the Assembly on Saturday, Mr Jagan said Indian Power Exchange has written to the AP Regulatory Commission (APERC) faulting the government for purchasing power at a high cost when it was available at a cheaper rate.
Mr Jagan said when power is available with the power exchange round-the-clock at Rs 2.81 per unit and in the night-time at Rs 1.90 per unit, the state government purchased power at Rs 5.11 a unit from the private power projects.
Mr Jagan said the state government purchased about 16,000 million units from private projects and this amounts to a huge scam.
He said the TD government is planning to increase the power tariff and reminded that during its 9-year rule earlier, Mr Naidu increased tariff every year.
Reacting to this, minister K Atchennaidu said former chief minister late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, during his five-year rule, burdened the people by Rs 24,000 crore burden by increasing power tariff in the name of surcharges. However, he died not supply adequate power to the people.
The YSR government has purchased power at Rs 13.55 a unit, he reminded. To this, Mr Jagan said that Rajasekhara Reddy, in his 5-year rule, never increased power tariff.
"But former chief minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy hiked the power charges and when the YSR Congress tried to move the no-confidence motion against him.”
