BJP knew it would lose floor test in Uttarakhand: Omar Abdullah

He alos alleged that J&K got two and a half months to form the new government because the BJP was involved in the power equation.

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference working president, Omar Abdullah, on Sunday alleged that the Narendra Modi government recommended imposition of President’s Rule in Uttarakhand because it knew the BJP would lose the trust vote on the floor of the State Assembly on Monday.

“The BJP's actions in #Uttarakhand re a clear admission they knew they were losing the floor test,” Abdullah wrote on Twitter.

Uttarakhand was brought under President's Rule by the Centre on grounds of "breakdown of governance" on Sunday in a controversial decision which comes in the wake of a political crisis triggered by a rebellion in the ruling Congress.

President Pranab Mukherjee signed the proclamation under Article 356 of the Constitution dismissing the Congress government headed by Harish Rawat and placing the Assembly under suspended animation on recommendation of the Union Cabinet.

In another tweet, Abdullah said, “The BJP have no problem murdering democracy so long as their Congress Mukht Bharat slogan is adhered to. #Uttarakhand” While responding to a tweet by a user Brumby Mata that ‘Never knew that the objective of #CongessMuktBharat would also be aided by overthrowing democratically elected governments,” Abdullah said.

“By hook or by crook. The BJP's commitment to democracy is only so long as elections throw up BJP governments,” he added.

Turning to his own State, the NC leader said that his political rival and Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti was given two and a half months time to make up her mind on forming government in Jammu and Kashmir because the BJP was involved.

“Because it was a BJP alliance Mehbooba was given 2 1/2 months to make up her mind. No such courtesy would've been extended to opposition,” he wrote.
