No hitch in poll talks with DMDK, says D Jayakumar

Jayakumar also claimed that some parties in the DMK camp were approaching the AIADMK for a tie-up.

Chennai: State fisheries minister D Jayakumar said that there was no hiccups in alliance talks between the AIADMK and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) in Tamil Nadu, for the forth coming Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Jayakumar said, "I am confident that the two parties will reach an agreement, and good things are happening between the AIADMK and the DMDK."

He also claimed that some parties in the DMK camp were approaching the AIADMK for a tie-up. However, he refused to divulge names of the parties. His comment comes in the backdrop of reports that the DMDK was seeking higher number of seats, and was also in touch with the DMK for alliance.

"AIADMK leaders are holding talks with the DMDK after it finalised poll pacts with the BJP and PMK on February 19. Everything will end on a cordial note. There is no second opinion about it," Jayakumar added.

He said rivals are wishing to see that a strong alliance did not materialise under the AIADMK. On Monday, CM and AIADMK Joint Coordinator K Palaniswami said that the party's wish was to forge a mega alliance of several parties, and talks were on with the outfits, including the DMDK.

Jayakumar said the AIADMK, despite being strong by itself, had forged an alliance with like-minded parties (BJP and PMK) to defeat the DMK-Congress combine, which he accused of having wor-ked against Tamils' interest in the past.
