Digvijay Singh dares Centre to investigate payoffs'

Digvijay Singh questioned BJP's silence over diaries containing payments made to their leaders.

Bengaluru: AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Sunday dared the Centre to launch a probe into the “diary” of Congress MLC K. Govindaraju, which allegedly contains details of “payoffs” made to party central leaders.

After the Congress Coordination Committee meeting here, a visibly upset Mr Singh questioned BJP’s silence over diaries containing payments made to their leaders.

“The BJP which is making allegations here must remember that it is the same party that is ruling at the Centre and it has control over investigation agencies. The Centre can launch an investigation into the contents of alleged diary and the motives behind it. Why is BJP shying away from an inquiry,” he questioned.

Attacking the media, he said, “You (media) do not get tired of posing questions to Congress leaders about the alleged diary, but you do not attack BJP as much as you attack the Congress.”

Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar said, “The I-T Department had sought clarification from me on the alleged diary and I filed my reply. I categorically denied the existence of any such diary or transactions taking place. I had maintained that it was fake document.”
