Kishan Reddy begins padayatra in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy on Monday said the state government had neglected the development of bastis in the city despite its promises of turning Hyderabad into a Singapore, London, or an Istanbul.

During his day long padayatra in Amberpet and Sanathnagar Assembly segments that fall in the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency that he represents, Kishan Reddy said the state government must take immediate steps to improve drinking water supply, drainage, and roads in the less privileged parts of the city.

During the day, Kishan Reddy met with a large number of people who submitted petitions and memoranda seeking solutions for the problems they are facing. Kishan Reddy said though the government claimed that Hyderabad was developing, the basic needs of people in large parts of the city were being neglected. He also expressed displeasure at the absence of officials from different civic departments during his padayatra.

Kishan Reddy met people from Vaninagar, Patelnagar, Chenna Reddynagar, BapunNagar, and MCH Colony in Amberpet constituency and from Balkampet, BJRnagar in Sanathnagar constituency. He said that in most areas he had toured, people complained about polluted drinking water, and saw incomplete works taken up by the GHMC and the Hyderabad water supply board. The government says it has no funds for civic works and to improve facilities for the people and contractors who are executing the works are not being paid their bills.
