Bengaluru: Virtual war rages, DVS Gowda responds to CM Siddaramaiah tweet

Bengaluru: Taking potshots at political rivals through social media like twitter seems to be catching up fast among senior political leaders in the state.

A day after the BJP’s Parivarthana rally in Mysuru which was addressed by none other than party national president Amit Shah, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a tongue-in-cheek comment calling Mr Shah and BJP’s chief ministerial candidate B.S. Yeddyurappa ‘two jail birds.’

Not the one to let this go unanswered, Union minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who has been posting interesting tweets in recent months, hit back even while making sure his comments did not cross the limits of decency.

Replying to Mr Siddaramaiah’s comments on Mr Shah and Mr Yeddyurappa, Mr Gowda said, “Congress-I was formed by ex jail bird. Her son ex-Prime Minister (Rajiv Gandhi) would have gone to jail in Bofors case and unfortunately, he gave his life to the terrorism sponsored by your party” in a reference to his assassination by LTTE extremists.

Mr Gowda did not stop there. Replying to Mr Siddaramaiah’ question on how the revenue of a company owned by Amit Shah's son, Jay Shah, could grow a thousand fold, Mr Gowda hit back saying, “I thought a finance minister with a record of presenting the highest number of budgets would know the basic difference between annual turnover and net profit after paying tax. Your chamchas are your intelligence, so this statement.”

Unlike another party leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha MP, Shobha Karandlaje, who has often landed in controversies for using unsavoury language, Mr Gowda seems to be earning more retweets for his tongue-in-cheek comments on the social media.
