Congress demands White Paper on Covid deaths

The government has suppressed the Covid-19 death toll, says Hyderabad city Congress committee minorities wing chairman Sameer Waliullah

Hyderabad: The Congress on Sunday demanded that the state government come out with a White Paper on the number of people from Telangana who had succumbed to Covid-19, along with details of compensation paid to families of the victims.

“The government has suppressed the Covid-19 death toll. As per official figures, till Saturday, 6,80,553 people were infected with the Coronavirus and 4,021 had lost their lives. But the actual number of deaths is much higher. The state government has started receiving applications for the Rs 50,000 compensation that has been announced by the Union government. However, it did not make any attempts to cover all Covid-hit families," Hyderabad city Congress committee minorities department chairman Sameer Waliullah said.

Quoting reliable sources, he claimed that nearly 7,000 families had applied for the compensation.
