AIADMK factions should unite: R Kanagaraj

The call for unity came within 24 hours of Dhinakaran romping home from R K Nagar constituency.

Coimbatore: The first call of unity for all factions of the AIADMK to come together after the RK Nagar bypoll debacle has come from Sulur MLA R Kanagaraj who on Monday congratulated TTV Dhinakaran on his spectacular victory in the constituency represented twice by late J Jayalalithaa. Kanagaraj, the AIADMK MLA who owes allegiance to Edappadi K Palaniswami, appealed to all the three - the Chief Minister, his deputy O Panneerselvam and Dhinakaran - to shed their “ego” and unite for the sake of party and its 1.5 crore cadre.

“No party can defeat the AIADMK if it stays united. The DMK was defeated in the elections and it should continue. All three leaders should come together and save the AIADMK. They should shed their ego and unite for the sake of the party founded by MGR and nurtured by late Amma”, Kanagaraj told reporters here. The call for unity came within 24 hours of Dhinakaran romping home from R K Nagar constituency with an impressive margin of 40,000 votes defeating AIADMK's official nominee E Madhusudhanan.

Reacting to Kanakaraj's statement, Dhinakaran's confidante Thanga Tamilselvan said: “Only one bird has spoken. Many more birds are singing to us and they include ministers as well. They will all flock to us”. On Sunday, Dhinakaran did not rule out unification of the factions, but said he can decide only after consulting party chief V K Sasikala and senior leaders.
