BRS Minister With Rs 3.77Cr Earnings in 5 years, Donates Rs 10 Cr to Party in 7 days

Hyderabad: Minister and BRS Karimnagar candidate Gangula Kamalakar donated Rs.10 crore to the party in September 2022, according to the accounts statement that the party had submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI) last year.

However, according to the affidavit that he filed along with his nomination papers, Kamalakar showed overall earnings of Rs.1,78,98,387 for the 2022-23 year

This showed a discrepancy in his spending and earnings, according to the data that Deccan Chronicle examined.

It is not clear where he raised the Rs.10 crore from, to donate to the party.

According to the BRS Annual Audited Accounts & Annual Report of Contributions submitted to the ECI in September 2023, Kamalakar donated the money through two cheques of Rs.5 crore each, on September 15 and 22, 2022. According to the report, he was also the top donor in an individual capacity, this newspaper found.

However, in his affidavit submitted for the November 30 Assembly elections, Kamalakar said he had earned Rs.3,77,34,495 from FY 18-19 to 22-23, his wife Rajitha Rs. 34,40,809 and the combined family earnings stood at Rs.30,67,130, taking the total to Rs. 4,42,42,434.

“His total income in the decade does not exceed Rs. 5 crore, but he donated Rs.10 crore to the BRS. How did he earn this amount is a big question,” said Forum for Good Governance (FGG) president M. Padmanabha Reddy.
