Hyderabad: Dubbak, where BJP president Amit Shah addressed a public meeting on Sunday, is located in proximity to the VIP constituencies of Gajwel, Sircilla and Siddipet. The residents say that while their neighbours had prospered, their lives had not changed much.
The decent numbers that turned up for the public meeting comprised party workers, followers of BJP candidate Raghunandan Rao and the general public, but it was clear from talking to them that they were not satisfied with the development of the constituency.
While Gajwel is represented by caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, caretaker minister T. Harish Rao has been elected from Siddipet and Mr K.T. Rama Rao from Sircilla. All these three constituencies are located within a 45-km radius of Dubbak. This can be considered a locational disadvantage for the outgoing legislator, Mr S. Ramalinga Reddy of the TRS as the residents of the constituency compare their situation with those of their counterparts in the three star constituencies.
“When I go to Gajwel, I always wonder how it was developed so quickly. The same goes for Siddipet and Sircilla. Comparing Dubbak with those three constituencies, we can see that development is negligible. It’s difficult for us to get to a hospital. The hospitals in those constituencies are constructed like star hotels”, said Mr P. Rajesh a youth from Dubbak.
BJP candidate Raghunandan Rao said, “The major problem our constituency faces is unemployment followed by the problems of bidi workers. Many of the youth from our constituency are going to Gulf countries for a job. The saddest part is that the bodies of the dead come after 10 to 15 days. The families here are facing tough times. The government should concentrate on the Gulf workers too. I’m sure that the BJP government will work on this.”
Despite the complaints, TRS candidate Rama Linga Reddy said would win in Dubbak. He said, “The constituency has witnessed a lot of development and will compete with Siddipet and Gajwel. There are no apprehension among the people. It is the only opposition that is is misleading and confusing the people.”
