Apply for corrections in voters' list till tomorrow

It is also learnt that the state election commission has planned to add 3 auxiliary booths to existing polling booths of RK Nagar.

Chennai: A day after the Election Commission of India announced poll schedule for the much-awaited RK Nagar seat, officials here have set the election process rolling in north Chennai.

Participating in a high-level meeting held at RK Nagar, district election officer and city corporation commissioner D. Karthikeyan urged the returning officer (RO) to update and verify the electoral rolls till Monday to ensure that there is no error in the final voters roll.

“The field officials have been instructed to expedite the poll process and a few inclusions of voters are likely in supplementary voters’ list. There is no necessity for the release of a new electoral roll as already the updated roll has been released and circulated to recognised political parties,” an official who attended the meeting told DC.

“The DEO has directed us to keep polling booths, counting booths and electronic voting machines (EVMs) ready,” K. Veluchami, returning officer, RK Nagar, said, adding voters who are left out of the electoral roll and who want to make corrections in the list can apply until Monday (November 27). Verification and enumeration of new voters and those who have shifted from other constit-uencies will be entertained till the time of filing nominations, Veluchami added.

It is also learnt that the state election commission has planned to add 3 auxiliary booths to existing polling booths of RK Nagar.

It may be noted that that the public election department has removed names of 45,000 voters from the list due to duplication, death, shifting of residence and bogus inclusions of names which alleged by Opposition DMK.
