Roshan Baig grabbed land worth Rs 100 crore, says BJP leader

The property on Infantry Road was owned by Ms Mallika Begum, who left the country before Independence and settled for life in Pakistan.

Bengaluru: BJP city spokesman N.R. Ramesh on Friday alleged that Urban Development Minister Roshan Baig and his family members have grabbed two pieces of government and one private property worth over Rs 100 crore by forging documents.

“Mr Roshan Baig's son Mr Ruman Baig, who is a partner in Sujay Advertisements, is creating a loss of Rs 25 crore to the BBMP every year by running the illegal hoarding business in the city,” he alleged.

Releasing documents related to the encroachment, Mr Ramesh said, “When Mr Roshan Baig served as the information minister, he took advantage of the loopholes in the law and grabbed government lands at two prominent locations – Thimmaiah Road and Infantry Road in the city."

The property on Infantry Road was owned by Ms Mallika Begum, who left the country before Independence and settled for life in Pakistan. Her property worth over Rs 100 crore which should belong to the government has been grabbed by Mr Roshan Baig and his family by creating fake records and forging signatures, he alleged.

The Karnataka High Court has already quashed the allotment of land worth over Rs 30 crore by the erstwhile Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (now BBMP) to Danish Publications Ltd, owned by Mr Roshan Baig and his family. Even after the high court order, top officials of the BBMP are not taking any measures to recover the property from Danish Publications, Mr Ramesh said.

As per the report prepared on illegal hoardings by BBMP's Special Commissioner (Advertisement/Revenue) V. Rashmi, the city has 21,000 illegal hoardings. Over 90 per cent of them are owned by Sujay Advertisements. “Using his political influence and with the help of his connections with the underworld mafia, Mr Roshan Baig is supporting Sujay Advertisements,” he alleged.
