MK Stalin backs Manmohan Singh's statement
Chennai: Strongly backing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's criticism that the Centre has committed monumental mismanagement in the demonetisation of high value currencies, Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ignored his predecessor by not replying to the criticism.
Reacting to a query by reporters on Modi's silence to the remarks to Manmohan Singh's comments, the DMK treasurer said what the former Prime Minister had said is true. Modi's silence only shows that he is ignoring the people. The Centre's administration is facing a big failure on the demonetisation efforts, he added.
Stalin warned that the DMK would resort to massive agitations if jallikattu was not held during this Pongal season. Referring to Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan and state BJP president Tamilisai Soundarrajan that they would bring back jallikattu, he said questions on jallikattu should be posed to them. If the Central and state governments did not create a situation for the conduct of jallikattu this year, the DMK would resort to massive agitations, he asserted.
Asked to comment on the deaths of farmers in Tamil Nadu, the state administration is not functioning and this had led to the suicides of farmers. Stalin said he would meet the families of farmers and console them during his visit to the delta districts.
