Krishnaiah requests EC to prevent money flow in TS

Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha MP and BC National Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah on Thursday requested chief electoral officer (CEO) Vikas Raj to take measures in preventing transporting cash and liquor in Telangana in view of the ensuing Assembly elections.

In his representation, Krishnaiah said that the contesting candidates are likely to distribute money and liquor in the state during the elections. The elections need to be held in a free and peaceful atmosphere, and that responsibility rests with the election commission.

“Money has already been confiscated in many places, but efforts are being made to entice voters in the district on a large scale. We are appealing to take strict action to prevent distribution of money and alcohol. Reports indicated that efforts are being made to distribute Rs 10 to Rs 25 crores in each constituency,” Krishnaiah said.

“The election commission must consider in appointing senior IAS officers in each Assembly constituency, a strong arrangement shall be made at the houses of the leaders of the political parties and liquor shops shall be shut without any sale till elections are over,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.
