Mamata hurts leg, tells Abhishek to lead Delhi protest

Medical professionals have recommended a 10-day period of rest at home for Mamata

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently sustained leg injuries while on a foreign tour. The incident occurred during her return journey from Spain, via Dubai, on September 23, following a 12-day trip aimed at attracting investments. However, the details of her injuries only became publicly known on a Sunday evening when she sought medical treatment at SSKM Hospital.

Upon her visit to SSKM Hospital, it was revealed that she had injured her left leg about a week ago during her visit to Spain. A video of the Trinamul Congress leader jogging on the streets of Madrid had gone viral around the same time. Consequently, the medical professionals have recommended a 10-day period of rest at home for Mamata, extending until October 4.

This implies that she will be unable to lead her party's planned agitation near Rajghat in New Delhi on October 2, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. The demonstration was intended to press for the release of the Centre's funds allocated for various public welfare schemes.

In light of this situation, sources indicate that Mamata has entrusted her Member of Parliament nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, who also serves as the TMC's national general secretary, to represent her in the national capital. It is noteworthy that this marks the third time in the past three years that the TMC chief has suffered leg injuries.
