Talupula MPP polls runs into controversy

MLA accused of forcing officials to ignore majority opinion

ANANTAPUR: Talupula MPP elections have run into a controversy after officials reportedly bowed down to an MLA’s diktat and ignored the decision of a majority of MPTC members.

The anti-Kadiri MLA Dr. Sidda Reddy group submitted a representation to the joint collector to conduct a probe against all officials, who supported the MLA who had the support of only three of 12 MPTCs in Talupula mandal.

Although, nine of them backed K. Srinivasa Reddy of YSRC, Sidda Reddy succeeded in getting his close-aide Rafi Naik elected as MPP of Talupula amid protests in the MPDO office in the mandal headquarters.

The dissidence group staged a protest at the MPDO office on the day of polling and demanded re-polling. While there was no response from officials, the group approached district election authorities seeking justice.

“Even as our MPTC members did not support the polling process, election officials declared the MLA’s candidate violating all norms,” the group informed Anantapur joint collector Nishanth Kumar. They said that they would approach the State Election Commission if the district administration failed to conduct a repoll.
