ANANTAPUR: As part of debarring teachers from the Millennium March, a protest against government apathy on the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) issue, police were issuing notices in person to all teachers at their schools. Concerned police stations reportedly insisted on serving notices to all teachers at their schools.

Interestingly, a visually challenged teacher and two physically challenged teachers from Kakkalapalli MPP School in Anantapur rural mandal also received notices.

The visually challenged teacher Erriswamy was working at Kakkalapalli MPP School in Anantapur rural mandal observed that the police served a notice to him which could not be read to him. "After getting read from colleagues, I found that the police asked not to attend the protest at Vijayawada on September 1. "How can I be part of violence?", he pointed out and stressed the need for the government to clear the long-pending issue.

In the same school, another physically challenged woman teacher said that she had also got notice from the police.

Meanwhile, the police department reportedly directed DEOs not to sanction leaves until September 1, in response to a protest call issued by teachers following a tense situation during a similar protest a few months ago.The police were serving notices to leaders in several mandals while all teachers in the schools are closer to headquarters.

Police have also alerted private vehicles not to provide hired vehicles for teachers to avoid untoward incidents. Police had already put up vigil at the railway stations of Anantapur, Dharmavaram, Hindupur, and Kurnool over possible travel of teachers to attend the Millennium March.
