TS Congress announces selfie campaign on development

HYDERABAD: In a bid to debunk the claims being made by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and ministers K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao with regard to development under the BRS government, the Congress said it would launch a campaign titled ‘Selfie with Congress Development’, according to CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

“We will showcase the development that the Congress governments had made over the years. It was the Congress which launched the free power scheme for farmers. YSR had then put his first signature on the file for free power,” Bhatti said, referring to Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy taking over for his first term.

“We are now bringing it out through the selfie programme. The party had then promised free power along with a waiver of power bills and processing of new requests for power in 1999. As we didn’t come to power we could not implement it. We had also promised to bring modern methods into agriculture along with remunerative prices. Thus the scheme of free power for farmers is the hallmark of the Congress,” he said.

“We will refresh people’s memory regarding the development work done by us. The Metro Rail, the Outer Ring Road, the Shamshabad airport, BHEL and others were developed by the earlier Congress regimes,” Bhatti said. “We will question the rise in Metro Rail fares. I call on all the Congress activists to participate in the programme and also give it wide publicity by keeping it as their WhatsApp status.”

On other issues, he said the party manifesto will differ from state to state according to local needs. He said the words of PCC president A. Revanth Reddy on free power for farmers were twisted.
