Modi-Shah playing with emotions: Dinesh Gundurao

Dinesh Gundurao also felt that BJP leaders themselves are fed up with the duopoly' of Modi-Shah in their party affairs.

Bengaluru: Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Dinesh Gundurao on Wednesday asserted that the BJP seems to be adopting its time-tested formula of dividing voters on emotional issues as it feels this is the only way to influence them before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the party’s OBC wing here, Mr Rao said, “The BJP’s only aim is to divide society and voters on emotive issues whereas our party president, Rahul Gandhi’s approach is to take everyone along with him, which is a more tedious and arduous process. It needs time for people to understand him(Rahul) and his approach. Mind you, it is not an easy way to attract voters. Therefore, the BJP tries to make fun of his approach but the Congress is pretty sure of one thing- Mr Gandhi and his policies will surely yield results in 2019.”

He also felt that BJP leaders themselves are fed up with the ‘duopoly’ of Modi-Shah in their party affairs. “Mr Modi’s only achievement is visiting foreign countries, he has nothing to say about the continuous attacks on marginalised groups like Dalits and minorities. This has resulted in a division of society on caste lines. If this is not stopped, our country will surely head to chaos shortly,” he explained.

According to him, Mr Gandhi was the only leader who could save the country from chaos. “We fell short in countering Mr Modi’s blitzkrieg in 2014, we need to gear up to face this in a much better way in 2019. The party in the state is making all out efforts in this direction,” he declared.

Mr Rao also said the entire country was looking at the Karnataka coalition model and so the party has decided to fully back Chief Minister, H. D. Kumaraswamy. “Our decision to back Mr Kumaraswamy has been appreciated at the national level. We need to protect this image and ensure that the party survives all challenges in running the coalition successfully,” he said.
