Lakshmipuram villagers to protest against O Panneerselvam
Madurai: People of Lakshmipuram village will observe a second round of fast protest on Wednesday condemning former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam for transferring agricultural land and an open well to R. Subburaj from R. Vijayalakshmi, his wife.
When Panneerselvam hold meeting with villagers at circuit house recently to solve the water issue, he agreed to sell the well which was in name of his wife Vijayalakshmi to people and gave three months for them to purchase it.
However villagers claim that they have learned from the Periyakulam sub-registrar's office that Panneerselvam had transferred one acre and 60 cents of land under survey number 3054 and a well, along with 5 HP motor pump set, Tangedco deposit and coconut trees to Subburaj, his close relative and a native of the village before he had attended the peace meeting.
Aggrieved over this, the villagers decided to stage protest on Wednesday.
Earlier, the villagers had conducted series of protest against Panneerselvam and his family members for had dug two big wells to supply water for the farm land owned by his wife. As they had deepened the wells, the common bore wells had also dried up, the villagers said.
The district administration also intervened to stop Panneerselvam's family from digging another well in the village after the people protested against it.
