CPM gears up to capitalise on BJP woes

The CPM strategy is to put the BJP on the defensive ahead of Amit Shah's next visit to Kerala on October 22.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With more skeletons tumbling out of BJP cupboard, the CPM state leadership is gearing up to unleash a state-wide campaign to expose the rampant corruption allegedly involving top leaders. For the CPM, the corruption charges against BJP leaders could not have come at a better time. The party believes that BJP’s credibility has taken a hit following the medical college bribe allegations and it was the right time to expose their corrupt deal. The CPM is of the view that these corruption charges would prove quite handy in countering BJP’s offensive campaign in the state besides neutralising Amit Shah’s desperate move to expand party’s electoral base in the state during next Lok Sabha polls.

The Marxist leadership is using all possible means including house-to -house campaigns, social media and public platform to expose BJP’s claim of being a “clean and corruption free” party. The CPM strategy is to put the BJP on the defensive ahead of Amit Shah's next visit to Kerala on October 22. Apart from the state leadership, the party is also targeting BJP national leaders to expose what it alleges the corrupt practices happening right under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nose in Delhi. “Without the help of BJP top brass such corrupt deals could not have been possible. Such assurances are beyond the capacity of local leaders. It is a clear case of corruption involving the central leadership and the central government,” pointed out CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

During the first leg of its house-to-house campaign, the CPM had adopted a twin strategy of highlighting Modi government’s ‘anti-people’ policies and its silence over attacks on the minorities and dalits in the name of gau raksha. But in the next leg, the Marxist leadership plans to bring the corruption issue right on the top of its agenda. With fresh allegations of corruption to misuse of election funds surfacing, the CPM leaders are hopeful of getting enough ammunition to target the BJP.
