Left parties to protest on June 30 against power tariff hike in AP

VIJAYAWADA: The Left parties will stage protests at the sub-stations and AP Transco offices across the state on June 30 in protest against the collection of true-up charges, adjustment charges, customer charges, and the proposals to install smart metres, said CPI state secretary K. Ramakrishna.

He alleged that the state government was exploiting power consumers by collecting extra money in the name of various types of charges and burdening them with exorbitant power tariffs.

He said the government was creating many problems for the people. He alleged the state government had given the contract to Adani Group for the supply of smart metres at a very high price compared to other states.

He pointed out that the Rajasthan state purchased smart metres for ₹7,100 and the AP government was buying them at an exorbitant price of ₹36,970. He demanded the government review the decision on the purchase of smart metres from the Adani group. Ramakrishna appealed to the people to participate in the protests staged by the Left parties on June 30 opposing the policies of the YSR Congress government in the power sector.
