KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her confidence in forming a "grand alliance" among all Opposition parties for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election next year. On Monday, she accused the Congress and CPM of plotting a "grand nexus" with the BJP in the state, despite her national initiative.
Recently, Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with the Congress and CPM, along with other Opposition parties in Bihar, to strategise on defeating the BJP in 2024. While kickstarting her Panchayat Election campaign in Cooch Behar, North Bengal, she vowed to crush their "grand nexus."
Addressing a party rally, Mamata Banerjee stated, "Bid adieu to CPM, Congress and the BJP. The three have united against us here. We are trying to build a Mahajot (grand alliance) against the BJP in Delhi. But CPM and Congress vilified me even yesterday and claimed to hatch Mahaghont (grand nexus) here. I will crush their Mahaghont. Mahajot will surely happen in Delhi. We will take care of Bengal."
She also criticised the three Opposition parties in Bengal and urged voters not to support any party that tortures people. She discouraged bringing back the CPM to power due to the atrocities they had unleashed in the past. She also advised against voting for the Congress, as it is an ally of the BJP in the state.
The Congress, CPM, and BJP immediately responded to Mamata Banerjee's remarks. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhury accused her of being involved in various scams and foiling attempts at alliances. CPM leader Shameek Lahiri claimed that it is clear to the people of Bengal who is surviving through an understanding with the BJP. BJP leader Rahul Sinha pointed out the inconsistencies in Mamata Banerjee's stance, highlighting her previous alliances and subsequent dismissals.
Mamata Banerjee also criticised the Border Security Force, accusing them of intimidating villagers at the BJP's behest ahead of the rural polls. She urged voters to cast their ballots without fear.
