K Chandrasekhar Rao banks on Congress dissidence

Recently a dissident group of Congress leaders went to Delhi to lobby against Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy's leadership.

Hyderabad: TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao reportedly wants to go in for early elections to cash in on the disarray in the Congress.

Congress dissident groups have intensified their activities against TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy despite repeated announcements by AICC incharge R.C. Khuntia that there would be no change of leadership.

The general and Assembly elections are due in April-May next. There are speculations that the Centre may advance the Lok Sabha elections to December, and Mr Rao wants to hold the state elections at the same time. This would leave political parties just about six months to set their house right. The Congress, instead, is busy fighting fires in its aisles.

Recently a dissident group of Congress leaders went to Delhi to lobby against Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy’s leadership. The group claims that it is getting the support of more senior leaders.

It is expected that the infighting will only increase as the elections approach, and Mr Rao wants to profit from that.

After Mr Danam Nagender, some more Congress leaders are expected leave the Congress, loosening the party’s grip on Hyderabad.
