Weak leadership makes AIADMK to bow to BJP: Srinivasan

Party cadres erected new banners before the minister arrived.

Dindigul: The State Forest minister Dindigul Srinivasan, one of the senior-most members in the AIADMK, said that the present government has to work in cooperation with BJP government at Centre though the party ideology was different from the latter, as the present state leadership, unlike late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, lacked courage and vision to take bold decisions.

Mr. Srinivasan made this observation while participating in a function to distribute welfare measures here, ahead of Ramzan eve on Saturday evening, organised by the AIADMK in Begampur in Dindigul town.

Most Muslim community members boycotted both the Iftaar party organised at Begampur Pallivasal, and the welfare distribution function as the AIADMK has extended support to BJP's Presidential poll nominee. Most chairs at the venue were unoccupied, even as the minister, besides Ramand MP, Anwar Raja and Dindigul MP Udayakumar went on stage.

The event was organised amid tight police security, as some unidentified persons had hurled petrol bombs at the former AIADMK councillor's house earlier and the banners welcoming the minister were also damaged.

Party cadres erected new banners before the minister arrived. "Some untoward incident happened in the area due to some misunderstanding. ...We all should live in unity and prevent such incident in the future," said Srinivasan.

"When Amma was alive, she was bold and took independent decisions, but after her death people like us are not bold and lack clarity," he said, adding, the government was cooperating with the Centre for the welfare of the people and the state.
