V M Sudheeran courts row on betrothal function
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran has triggered a debate in the Congress camp with a controversial comment that former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala should not have attended the betrothal of former revenue minister Adoor Prakash's son with bar owner Biju Ramesh's daughter.
While addressing a press meet at KPCC office here, Mr Sudheeran said without naming these two senior leaders that they should have stayed away from giving a wrong message by attending the ceremony. He said it was Mr Ramesh who tainted the image of the UDF government by putting itself in a crisis.
The engagement of Megha and Ajay Krishnan was held at a convention centre at Kazhakoottam. Several ministers as and Congress leaders attended the function.
"Propriety should be a guiding factor for leaders while attending private functions. Or else a wrong message would go out to the public," he said.
Mr Ramesh in a Facebook post had thanked everyone who had attended the ceremony and had also named those leaders cutting across political parties. However, Mr Chandy and Mr Chennithala refused to comment while the Congress house appeared divided on Mr Sudheeran's comments. A section of them said it was their personal choice to attend the betrothal ceremony.
