MK Stalin appeals for quality treatment in government hospitals
Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Saturday expressed shock over problems in vision for 20 people who underwent cataract surgery in Mettur government hospital in Salem and appealed to the government to provide quality treatment to people at government hospitals.
Special frequent training should be given to government hospital doctors on modern techniques in eye surgery and measures for post operative care, he said in a statement here. He complained that the doctors had functioned in a complacent manner in the surgery and expressed anguish and concern over the incident.
It seems that the hospital had failed to give the post operative guidelines for the patients who underwent the surgery, he said and alleged that low quality lens had been fitted. Poor and middle class people alone approach government hospitals and the complacency of the hospital is condemnable, he added.
PMK demands compensation for loss of vision:
PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation for the people who had lost their vision, besides steps for advanced treatment to restore their vision.
Rejecting the argument that the patients did not take proper care after the surgery, he said it could be accepted only if a few persons are affected. Since, all the people who had underwent surgery had problems in vision, the low quality of medicines could be a reason for the problem. Additional care by the surgeons could have prevented the incident.
