BJP will cooperate with state govt in implementing Centre's schemes: L Ganesan
PALANI: BJP will extend its cooperation to the Tamil Nadu government in implementing the Centre’s welfare schemes, senior BJP leader, L. Ganesan, said on Saturday.
“As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keenly interested in the welfare of Tamil people, we requested the State government to pay special attention in implementing the Central government welfare schemes,” he said on the sidelines of the party’s general body meeting here.
On the party’s stand on Katchatheevu issue, Ganesan said as the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had ceded the island to Sri Lanka, it was not possible to reclaim it. “But the Centre was holding talks with the Lankan government to retain our traditional rights like fishing near Katchatheevu which we had prior to ceding of the island.”
Commenting on TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan’s resignation from the post, Ganesan said it only reflected that there was no inner-party democracy in Congress.
A resolution adopted at the general body meeting urged the State government to review the power plant project at Cheyyur to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
While urging the government to review the Port-Maduravoyal Expressway project, to reduce traffic congestion in Chennai, the party said all highway projects announced by the Centre should be implemented in the State.
Condemning the commercialistion of education, the BJP asked the State government not to close down government schools. The party also urged the State government to open Navodaya schools. Nearly 551 Navodaya schools are functioning in the country, but students of Tamil Nadu alone were being deprived of those benefits by Dravidian parties for many years now citing wrong reasons.
The BJP also said entrance exam introduced by the Centre following the Supreme Court judgment would benefit people in the long run. It also urged the State government to introduce an education policy that would help improve students’ intellect.
The resolution also requested the state government to implement the Central government policy to produce 15 per cent ethanol fuel using sugarcane waste in sugarcane factories instead of using it for producing Tasmac.
The party requested the Tamil Nadu government to fulfil its election promise to waive farm loans of all farmers. Union minister Pon. Radhakrishnan, national executive member C.P. Radhakrishnan and state secretary R. Srinivasan participated in the meeting.
