Farmers delighted as crop insurance paid

East Godavari district collector D. Muralidhar Reddy said that the scheme is a cent per cent state scheme

KAKINADA: The farmers in East Godavari district expressed their happiness over the Dr YSR Crop Insurance scheme as the government is offering it, without putting any burden on the farmers. The government is fully paying the premium on their behalf.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched ‘Dr YSR Vuchitha Pantalabhima Padhakam’ and credited the crop insurance to the extent 388.98 crore to the accounts of 2,50,866 farmers in East and West Godavari districts on Tuesday. As many as 1,47,726 farmers benefited from the payment of Rs 219.26 crores in East Godavari and 1,02,140 farmers got direct benefits worth Rs 169.72 crore in West Godavari district.

The CM released the amounts through a virtual mode. A farmer Marella Venkata Ramana from Yandamuru in Karapa mandal East Godavari district said at the event that he was very surprised to know he got the insurance even though he had not paid the premium. He said the Jagan Mohan Reddy government introduced Rythu Bharosa scheme, input subsidy, crop insurance scheme and others, helping farmers do away with very high interest loans.

East Godavari district collector D. Muralidhar Reddy said that the scheme is a cent per cent state scheme, helping all those who took up agriculture and horticulture crops notified by the government. The scheme was being implemented from 2020 kharif onwards. It applies to all those whose details are registered in the e-crop online. No separate enrollment is required.

BC welfare minister Ch. Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna said the farmers were breathing easy following launch of a slew of schemes. Kakinada MP Vanga Gita said that previously the farmers did not know when they would get the insurance claims. But, now, they are getting the claims within a stipulated time.
