TRS corporators stir against Khammam Mayor Papalal
Khammam: As many as 38 TRS corporators revolted against Khammam Mayor Papalal and offered to resign from the municipal corporation on Friday. These corporators are aligned with Khammam MLA Ajay Kumar Puvvada and roads and buildings minister T. Nageswara Rao. The corporators who were close to TRS MP P. Srinivasa Reddy kept themselves away.
The corporatators met at a private function hall and discussed the Mayor’s alleged indifference to the issues they raised. Following this, they decided to quit the corporation and submit the resignation letters to party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The TRS has 44 corporators in the 50-member corporation.
Mr Rao discussed the matter with party leaders and the corporators were invited to meet him on Saturday. The corporators have formed a committee to collect individual resignation letters, all of them to be addressed to Mr Rao.
Mr Chava Narayana Rao, corporator of 22nd division, said, “We have no respect in our divisions and we are unable to meet a single demand of the people”.
They alleged that Mr Papalal was encouraging Opposition leaders. No TRS corporator was invited to a programme to declare salary hike for contract workers, while CPI and CPM leaders were given importance. “It will be difficult for the TRS to fight against the opposition in the corporation in the next elections”, a corporator said.
