SP-BSP tie-up a challenge for BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha polls: Amit Shah

In fact, BJP president Amit Shah on Friday admitted that the alliance will be a challenge for the BJP in 2019.

New Delhi: With less than a year left for the 2019 general elections, the BJP has started doing its maths and is worried about the outcome of the BSP-SP alliance in Uttar Pradesh where the party won 71 of the 80 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

In fact, BJP president Amit Shah on Friday admitted that the alliance will be a challenge for the BJP in 2019. “If the BSP and SP contest in alliance, it would be a challenge to us. But we are sure that we will win either one seat: Amethi or Rae Bareli,” he told the media in Delhi on the occasion of the completion of four years of the Modi government.

On the opposition forming an alliance, Mr Shah said they all fought against BJP in 2014 too “but failed to stop us. They all have their presence in their respective states but they won’t be able to defeat us,” he said. The BJP would win at least 80 seats in 2019 which it could not win last time. “We will win seats in northeast, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and other places,” he said.
