Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Surya and Adi move to Congress fold

Mr. Reddy had floated the Telangana Nagara Samithi after being expelled from Telugu Desam but his party soon merged with the BJP.

Hyderabad: After being expelled from the TDP, he floated his own party, merged it with the BJP but quit the BJP soon enough. Former Minister Mr. Nagam Janardhan Reddy has finally landed in the Congress.

On Wednesday, Mr. Reddy formally joined the Congress in the presence of AICC President Rahul Gandhi at Delhi with TPCC President Mr. N Uttam Kumar Reddy and AICC in-charge of TPCC Mr. RC Khuntia also present on the occasion.

Mr. Reddy had floated the Telangana Nagara Samithi after being expelled from Telugu Desam but his party soon merged with the BJP. Not for long though. Recently he resigned from the BJP and has now joined the Congress.

One of the first official statements he has made after joining the Congress was that the credit for the creation of a separate Telangana State went to Sonia Gandhi. He said that he would support AICC President Rahul Gandhi's leadership and would work for the Congress to come to power in Telangana.

Mr. Reddy criticised the TRS and said that the State Government had forgotten all election promises when it was time for their implementation. Meanwhile, T Congress MLA Ms. D. K. Aruna who opposed Mr. Reddy's admission in the party said that they had no objection to whoever wanting to join the party provided newcomers were not given party tickets unless they had put in five years of work for the party.

Another Congress entry was that of Mr. Naga Surya, the son of revolutionary Telugu balladeer and supporter of Maoist ideology Mr. Gaddar. Mr. Surya also joined Congress in the Presence of Rahul Gandhi. He said he was not a member of any Maoist group and added that he had his father's blessings in joining the Congress. He also said he was ready to contest in the next elections from wherever the party wanted him to.

Meanwhile Adi Srinivas, former Congress leader who had defected to the BJP, has also returned to home party. He was also re-admitted into the Congress party in the presence of AICC President Rahul Gandhi.
