Thiruvananthapuram: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday said the determination to pursue your political understanding was the hallmark of a communist.
Speaking to a local channel, Yechury said he stuck to his view till 22nd Party Congress as it could not have been abandoned for opportunism regarding posts and positions in inside the party. The point was not to continue as general secretary for long but to stick to your conviction. There will have to be some cleansing in the party if opportunism is found for posts and positions, he sadded.
When asked whether it wasn’t a risky affair to take the amendment till the Party Congress and put it before the delegates for discussions on the floor, Yechury said a lot of people were surprised why you are persistently pursuing your position. “After all if you didn’t pursue the position you could end up continuing as general secretary for longer duration,” he said.
He said the point was not continuing as general secretary but what I thought was my conviction. “That is what Marxism is all about. It is your conviction it’s your commitment, your dedication to the people. That is why I said this Congress is a Congress of unity and Congress of determination,” he added.
