Reconsider decision, PWA tells Vaiko
Chennai: People’s Welfare Alliance leaders on Monday expressed shock over the MDMK general secretary Vaiko’s sudden decision to not to contest in Kovilpatti Assembly seat and they also appealed to him to reconsider his decision.
VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan said he was shocked to hear about Vaiko’s decision and said he should reconsider his decision and in the election.
“Vaiko is a leader who is beyond caste and religion. To prevent caste clash, he has decided not to contest the election,” he said, adding that propaganda made by few persons in Opposition could not be construed as the opinion of an entire community. “Hence, he should reconsider his decision,” he said. When asked about Vaiko’s charge against DMK planning to foist caste clash in Kovilpatti, he said that he would not have made the charge without any basis. “Certainly there will be a truth behind his charge,” he said, dismissing that there were differences among PWA parties.
TMC founder G.K. Vasan said that MDMK leader’s decision is sad and shocking new for his party cadres. “He has clearly explained why he had taken such a decision. Parties rejected by the people are trying to create caste clash to polarise voters,” he said, adding that Vaiko who is a senior leader would have taken the decision considering the prevailing situation. He noted that there is no doubt that if Vaiko contest the poll, he would win with a huge majority.
