Rajahmundry: Several contestants, representing various political parties, rushed to the offices of returning officers concerned for both Parliamentary and Assembly segments, to file their nominations papers, on Monday, in Godavari districts.
In East Godavari, in total, 50 contestants filed 89 sets of nomination papers to contest for three Parliamentary segments, including Kakinada, Rajahmundry and Amalapuram. For 19 Assembly segments, 319 contestants filed 524 sets of nomination papers. Similarly, in West Godavari, 30 nominations were filed for two Parliamentary segments, including Eluru and Narasapuram, and 262 nominations were filed for 15 Assembly segments in total.
The election authorities will scrutinise the nominations received from the contestants, from various political parties, on March 26. The contestants are given time to withdraw their nominations by March 28.
On the other hand, electioneering has picked up momentum as the contestants, along with their supporters, plunged into aggressive campaign as just a few days are left for polls, scheduled to be held on April 11.
Rajahmundry Parliamentary segment nominee from TD Maganti Rupa and Rajahmundry City Assembly segment nominee from TD Adireddy Bhavani took part in the campaign together.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Bhavani said that after 40 years, a woman has got a chance to contest from Rajahmundry City Assembly segment and appealed to the voters to support her. She appealed, especially to women, to support her in the polls....
