Actor Mohan Babu likely to re-enter politics, join YSRC

The hero takes revenge on the villain by exposing all his felonious acts and finishes him off at the climax.

TIRUPATI: In what can be understood to be an episode straight from “Assembly Rowdy”, a blockbuster movie with Tollywood senior actor Manchu Mohan Babu in the lead role, the thespian is likely to make his foray into politics. The actor owns a chain of educational institutions including an engineering college.

The firebrand hero enacted the role of Sivaji, an unemployed youth, who gets involved in local politics under inevitable circumstances. Later, he becomes an MLA, challenging his counterpart, who irks his father and family earlier.

The hero takes revenge on the villain by exposing all his felonious acts and finishes him off at the climax.

Now, the actor-turned-educationist seems to be repeating the movie plot in real life too.

What makes one believe that Mr Babu would plunge into politics is the tiff between him and ruling party over pending fee reimbursement to the students of the engineering college, run by Sri Vidyaniketan Group of Institutions, Tirupati, run by Mohan Babu’s family.

In the past one week, Mr Mohan Babu has been levelling serious allegations against the TD chief. Mr Babu was upset following charges against him that he had misused public funds and that records of his educational institutions show irregularities.

Political analysts said he might join the YSRC, as he has close ties with Y.S family, with his son Manchu Vishnu marrying Veronica, the cousin of YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

According to the party sources, the senior actor and former Rajya Sabha member is all set to join YSRC.

It is learnt that Manchu Mohan Babu will be meeting Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at Lotus Pond on Tuesday to discuss about his joining the party.

The sources said that following the meeting with Mr Jagan, Mohan Babu will address the media at Park Hyatt Hotel to officially announce his joining the YSRC.

“Though Mohan Babu cannot get any post right now, he may be nominated to the Rajya Sabha if YSRC comes to power in this election. TD founder N.T. Rama Rao nominated Mohan Babu to Rajya Sabha in the 90s. He, however, wasn't nominated again after the end of term by the TD government and that is why he holds a grudge against the present TD chief”, said a YSRC leader.
