TTV Dhinakaran on fast in Thanjavur over formation of CMB

Farmers from some Agriculturists organisations also joined the AMMK members in the fast.

Thanjavur: In an important development, members of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) led by T.T.V. Dhinakaran MLA, and deputy general secretary of the AMMK, undertook a fast here on Sunday urging the Centre to form the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) immediately.

Farmers from some Agriculturists organisations also joined the AMMK members in the fast.

While commending the fast, Dhinakaran said that both State and Central governments have failed with respect to forming of CMB. “Central government which cites Supreme court’s order in issues like instant tripe talaq, Neet and suspending subsidy to Haj pilgrims, is not respecting the same court’s order in Cauvery issue. The issue is politicised and a decision is allegedly delayed due to elections in Karnataka” Dhinakaran said.

Mr. S. Ranganathan, secretary, Cauvery delta Farmers Welfare Association offered fruit juice to TTV to conclude the fast in the evening. Regretting that the Centre’s action appeared to water down the Supreme court’s order, Ranganathan said only way out for Tamil Nadu government is to file a contempt petition against the Centre if the CMB is not formed by March 29.

He appealed to all political parties to stand united in the issue. Mr. Ayyakannau, president of Thenninthiya Nathigal Inaippu Farmers Association, P. Nedumaran of Thamizhar Desiya Periyakkam, offered felicitations to Dhinakaran, who said that his party would consider filing a contempt petition against the centre if CMB was not set up in time.

Scribe attacked
Meanwhile, Mr N Sundararajan, a scribe-cum-photographer of a popular Tamil Daily covering TTV’s fast was allegedly attacked by Dhinakaran’s supporters here when he tried to take a picture. The scribe was injured in his throat and a gold chain he was wearing was also missing. Thanjavur press club condemned the attack.
