Left front turns ire against K Surendran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left parties on Saturday alleged that BJP leader K Surendran’s controversial statement was aimed at derailing the ongoing efforts to restore peace in Kannur. The left leaders believed that the provocative statements and threat to block chief minister Pinaryi Vijayan in Mangaluru were intended to trigger violence again. On the eve of Pinarayi’s meeting, the BJP leader while addressing a gathering of Sangh Parivar activists in Mangaluru, claimed that they had adopted a tit for tat policy when the party had just 2 per cent vote share.
“During the last Assembly election we got 30 lakh votes at 16 per cent. Even when we secured 5 lakh votes we retaliated every time there was a murder. But now we don't do that. But we will not leave you,” he said. CPM MLA M Swaraj has given a complaint to DGP seeking action against Surendran for his controversial speech. The social networking sites have also targeted Surendran calling him the BJP avtaar of M.M. Mani who had made that infamous speech about political murders in Idukki district. The Idukki strongman was sent to jail and the case against him is pending before the court. Many people have demanded action against Surendran.
Meanwhile, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran suspected that the provocative actions were aimed at derailing the peace process in Kannur. “Chief minister took the initiative and held bilateral talks with CPM and BJP. This was followed by an all party meeting in Kannur,” he said. Criticising Surendran for his controversial speech, Kanam said, “you cannot kill people whether you secure 2 lakh or 30 lakh votes,” he said. The CPI leader hoped that legal action would be taken against Surendran for his hate speech .
