BJP demeaning protests for Tamil culture: DMK

The state BJP is mocking at the victory earned by the protests for Tamil culture and depicting them as the protests of extremists, the DMK MP charged.

Chennai: DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan on Wednesday alleged that the BJP government at the centre had threatened its ‘puppet government’ in the state to brand the peaceful jallikattu protesters as ‘anti-national’ and degrading the protests of Tamils.

He alleged that Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan had expressed mischievous views on the jallikattu protests to divert the failure of the BJP to address the issues of Tamils. The state BJP is mocking at the victory earned by the protests for Tamil culture and depicting them as the protests of extremists, the DMK MP charged.

The BJP threw the same allegations of ‘anti-nationals’ at the protests at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi and the Hyderabad University, he said.

The entire world lauded the peaceful protests and even the policemen and protesters were bonded by Tamil sentiments. But, Radhakrishnan had lost Tamil sentiments since he is a minister in the BJP government.

Radhakrishnan who promised to hold jallikattu later sought apology for his inability and he had no locus standi to criticize the Jallikattu Regulation Act, 2009 brought by the DMK government, Elangovan said.

Jallikattu was held during the DMK regime since the law was valid and the sport was not held only during the AIADMK rule. The central and state governments are the reasons for the massive protests of youth in Tamil Nadu, Elangovan.
