Swamy Goud refuses time to TRS defectors
Hyderabad: Legislative Council Chairman A. Swamy Goud on Monday turned down the request of TRS Council members who joined the Congress for more time to reply to his notice. In a related development, Congress leaders met Mr Goud, demanding that he disqualify MLCs who recently shifted to the TRS from the Congress.
TRS MLCs Ramulu Naik and Bhupathi Reddy, who were served with notices, met Mr Goud and requested him to provide more time to them to respond to the notices. Both said that the Chairman did not respond positively.
Congress leaders and the two MLC alleged that Mr Goud was misusing constitutional powers given to him. Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Naik asked how Mr Goud could take a decision on the MLCs who joined the Congress but not those who joined the TRS.
He said, “The notices were issued on December 18. I requested the chairman for four weeks but he did not respond positively. I was nominated in the Governor’s quota. It is a fact that I met Congress president Rahul Gandhi but I have not joined the Congress. Some people are trying to put me in jail and some are planning to kill me. The government will be responsible for whatever happens to me.”
Mr Bhupathi Reddy said, “I received notices on December 19. The notice says that it was issued because I joined the Congress. I have requested the Chairman to provide me with some more time.”
