RK Nagar bypoll result: I got real BJP votes, says Karu Nagarajan

People of R. K. Nagar did not vote as per their conscience. Money had ruled if this continues, there is no need to conduct elections.

CHENNAI: Despite the caustic criticism from party senior Subramanian Swamy who ridiculed the BJP saying the “national ruling party gets a quarter of NOTA’s vote,” party candidate Karu Nagarajan put up a brave face and said the votes he polled on Sunday were “genuine and not bought.”

“People of R. K. Nagar did not vote as per their conscience. Money had ruled… if this continues, there is no need to conduct elections. Each and every constituency could be auctioned,” he said reacting to the victory of T. T. V. Dhinakaran in the by-poll. Refusing to accept his party had performed poorly, he said “from day one I have been saying I would get the votes of those who are not purchased by the Dravidian parties. And I stand vindicated.”

“What I got are real votes. Political parties won’t change, so people have to change and reform the politicians,” he stressed.

“TN BJP record: A national ruling party gets a quarter of NOTA’s vote. Time for accountability,” party’s MP Subramanian Swamy tweeted as the results started pouring in.

Reacting, state president of the party Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan tweeted “Tamil Nadu politics has once again proved that money can buy victory in election and position too.”

The keenly watched tussle confined only to the giants – T. T. V. Dhinakaran and AIADMK veteran E. Madhusudhanan. Nagarajan had managed to secure a mere 1,417 votes.

The votes in favour of NOTA accounted to 2,373 from the constituency, where fishermen decided to vote against the ruling AIADMK.
