CM pressing button 36 times a year, says Speaker Sitaram

Visakhapatnam/Kakinada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has been pressing the button 36 times every year to distribute benefits of his social welfare schemes. Now, the “people should press the button once, on the Fan symbol, and make Jagan Mohan Reddy chief minister again.”

Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram made this plea to the people at a public meeting in Pendurthi as a part of the Samajika Sadhikara Bus Yatra on Saturday afternoon.

Sitaram said the Samajika Sadhikara Yatras were worrying the Opposition parties as it became the role model for the entire country.

“There were no significant welfare schemes for the poor since Independence but Jagan Mohan Reddy declared while he took charge as Chief Minister that he would free the state from poverty.

“He always reminded us that poverty should not be a hurdle for education, health and agriculture,’’ the Speaker said.

Sitaram said the Chief Minister fulfilled the ideals of Dr Ambedkar by improving the lot of the poor. Jagan Mohan Reddy made two deputy chief ministers from ST and an SC woman he home minister, he noted.

Lok Sabha member Nandigama Suresh said the Chief Minister brought down poverty by starting welfare schemes.

Deputy chief minister Budi Mutyala Naidu said people were happy because of the welfare schemes. Anakapalli MP Satyavathi said the chief minister would soon start functioning from Visakhapatnam.

Meanwhile, in Tuni, revenue minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy provided good governance as per the Constitution.

He said Jagan Mohan Reddy allocated '12,800 crore for housing to benefit as high as 33 lakh people. “During the Telugu Desam term, the people used to contact Janma Bhoomi Committees to get the benefits and the district collectors could not help the beneficiaries. Jagan Mohan Reddy totally changed the governance and now, the people can get help on their own from the government, he said.

Fisheries minister Appala Raju said Chandrababu Naidu had insulted, harassed and humiliated the BCs, SCs, minorities and STs. “Now, Jagan Mohan Reddy changed the entire scenario and no poor would need to bow down their heads before the rulers. They can live with self-confidence and respect in society.”

Former minister Anil Kumar Yadav said that, when Telugu Desam was in power, the government removed the “Sannidhi Golla’’ tradition in Tirumala. “The then minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu did not respond and did not do justice to the family members of “Sannidhi Golla’’ and its tradition. Now, Jagan Mohan Reddy re-introduced the tradition and provided self-respect to the Yadava Community’’.

The BC Welfare Minister Venu Gopalakrishna said the elections in 2024 would be fought between a liar (Chandrababu Naidu) and an upholder of truth (Jagan).
