Kakinada to get new mayor today
KAKINADA: The election of the new mayor and deputy mayor-1 to Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) will take place on Monday as the election commission has issued notification towards it.
Sitting Mayor Sunkara Pavani and deputy mayor -1 Kala Sathibabu were defeated by the KMC Council through a 'no-confidence motion’ on October 5.
Now, the 40th division corporator Sunkara Siva Prasanna, who won in 2017 on behalf of Telugu Desam, is likely to contest with the support of the ruling YSRC MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy.
In the last four years, three corporators, including one from YSRC, died while R. Chandrakala Deepthi resigned after being appointed as chairman of Kakinada Urban Development Authority.
After YSRC ousted TDP from power, 20 TD corporators turned rebels and two BJP rebels are supporting YSRC, whose strength has gone up to 36, including the three ex-officio members, who all are likely to support Siva Prasanna. But, the TD high command did not issue a party whip to the election as it has a strength of 10 in the council.
Meanwhile, when the no-confidence motion notice was received, Pavani approached the High Court which directed the elections officials not to reveal the results, though the no-confidence motion election to be held and the case was adjourned to October 22.
Pavani told this correspondent that she was confident of getting justice from the court.
