Congress to be more aggressive in Assembly

If the government rejects our demand, we will seek an adjournment motion on the issue the next day, the Congress leaders said.

Hyderabad: The Congress Legislature Party on Tuesday decided to be more aggressive in the Assembly during the session that starts on October 27, including taking up a massive farmers rally on the opening day of the session.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Leaders of the Opposition in the Assembly and Council K. Jana Reddy and Mohd. Ali Shabbir, said that the Congress will not take up any other matter except raising the issues concerning farmers in the state who are facing a severe crisis. They said that the Congress will try to get the government agree to a special discussion on the issue on the opening day itself.

They said that in the Business Advisory Committee meeting on October 26, they would insist that farmers issues be taken up for special discussion in the House. “If the government rejects our demand, we will seek an adjournment motion on the issue the next day,” the Congress leaders said.

They said the agriculture sector in the state was facing the “severest possible crisis” as there are no remunerative prices offered to various crops. Besides, there was no market intervention by the government to rescue crisis-hit farmers, they alleged.

They also appealed to Congress workers across the state to mobilise and participate in the ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally on the opening day of the session.

Stating that Congress leaders this time were prepared to face any consequences, they appealed to party workers across the state to mobilise people and participate in the ‘Chalo Assembly’ rally on the opening day of the session.

Even in the Legislature Party meeting, a number of legislators felt that there was no point in keeping quiet and allow the session continue in a peaceful manner if there was no discussion on farmers issue and providing them relief.

Since election atmosphere is slowly setting in across the state, the Congress, being the main Opposition party, should be more aggressive, they felt.
