YSRC defends renaming University of Health Sciences after YSR

Ramesh ridiculed Nandamuri Balakrishna for waking up three days after renaming of the university, that too through Twitter

VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress has defended the new Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences nomenclature, refuting allegations of TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and others.

Housing minister Jogi Ramesh pointed out that despite being in power for 17 years, Naidu did not give the name of NTR to any district. But Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy formed a new Vijayawada district with NTR’s name. He said Naidu will not remember NTR while in power, but would chant his name to mislead people.

Ramesh ridiculed Nandamuri Balakrishna for waking up three days after renaming of the university, that too through Twitter. Balakrishna tweeted that no one can tarnish the name of N.T. Rama Rao and no one can alienate NTR from Telugu race and society. The minister questioned who actually alienated NTR from Telugu race.

“Who backstabbed your father? Why did you let Naidu sit in the post of CM,” the minister counter questioned the cine actor.

The minister described Jagan Mohan Reddy as a great person who gave NTR's name to Krishna district, thereby making him remain forever in history.

Responding to YS Sharmila’s objection on removal of NTR name from the health university, Ramesh said she would not have listened to words spoken by Jagan in the assembly. If she had, she would have understood clearly why the university had been named after YSR.

Health minister Viddala Rajni said if there is one person who caused the most emotional distress to NTR, that is Chandrababu Naidu. She questioned why NTR’s family members did not raise their voice when Naidu displaced their father as chief minister.

Former minister Perni Venkataramaiah alias Nani recalled that Naidu caused huge emotional distress to NTR. The founder of TDP had been suspended from his own party by Naidu. “NTR had not even been given a chance to speak in the assembly,” he pointed out.

Deputy CM Amzath Basha, fisheries minister Dr. Seediri Appalaraju, social welfare minister for Merugu Nagarjuna, water resources minister for Ambati Rambabu, industries minister Gudivada Amarnath and others also defended renaming of the health university after YSR. They raised objections to comments of Balakrishna, Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh and other TD leaders.
