Thiruvananthapuram: LDF poll committees by September 29, 30

All committees at the lower level — panchayat and booth level will be constituted by October 5.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LDF convener A Vijayaraghavan on Tuesday said the revelations of BJP’s assembly committee president that his party had transferred votes to UDF in Pala bypoll yet again exposed the unholy nexus between the two parties in Kerala.

At a press conference here, Vijayraghavan said the UDF fought the Pala bypoll under the direct command of Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. Therefore, he owed an explanation on the issue.

“At a time when the Modi government is attacking democratic institutions, federalism, pluralism, parliamentary democracy, Constitution and Kashmir is under siege and minorities feeling unsafe, the Congress is going for unholy alliance with BJP for electoral gains," he alleged.

The LDF meeting which was presided over by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, decided to constitute election committees in Assembly constituencies on September 29 and 30.

Election committees will be constituted in Manjeshwaram, Konni, Vattiyoorkavu on September 29.

The committees in Aroor and Ernakulam would be set up on September 30.

All committees at the lower level — panchayat and booth level will be constituted by October 5.

Vijayraghavan said the LDF was hopeful of wresting some of the UDF seats. “We will retain Aroor and wrest some other sets from the rival front,” he claimed.

The LDF has given a call for organising evening dharnas in 140 Assembly segments on October 10 to protest against the economic policies of the BJP government and the increasing prices of essential commodities including onion.
