Chennai: The Election Commission on Tuesday released a video featuring popular singer Chitra to create public awareness about the commission’s electoral verification drive-2019. Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo released the video in the Secretariat in Chennai.

Singer Chitra, in the video, has appealed the voters to verify the details in the Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and make suitable corrections through online. She also inform the people that Election Commission has introduced a feature in the website ‘family tree’ to enable the family members to cast their vote in a common booth.

She starts with a song eulogising, greeting the voters with Vanakkam. Chitra says, “I am your singer Chitra speaking. Music is common to all languages. Similarly voting right is common for everyone. Just as I am proud to live in India I am also equally proud to live with voting right’.

She says the Election Commission has given us an opportunity to correct details mentioned in the voters list. This can be done by the voters themselves with the help of websites www.nvsp.in and www.elections.tn.gov.in.

She says voters can change old and black and white photo with new and colour photo and correct address and other details on the voters list.

Married women staying along with parents or with matrimonial houses also can effect the change details. Those who are born prior to January 1, 2001, can use the facility to enroll themselves as voters. Elders and differently abled persons can dial 1950 to effect changes. The video was produced by CEO.

Recently the EC organized a month long ‘Electors Verification Programme’ (EVP) from September 1, 2019 as part of special summary revision of electoral roll, 2020. The EC plans to involve members of women self help groups in the state to raise awareness among the people about EVP.
