School education secretary Udhayachandran's wings clipped

Madras HC had last week ordered that the upright officer should not be transferred.

Chennai: School education department secretary T. Udhayachandran, in the news lately for alleged differences with his minister K.A. Sengottaiyan over teachers' transfers, has been divested of his responsibilities except for dealing with ‘curriculum revision’ while being under the “overall control” of the new principal secretary of the department.

A government order late Thursday night, which listed a large number of transfers of senior IAS officers, said temporary posts of principal secretaries to government have been created in the departments of school education, animal husbandry, dairy & fisheries, industries commissioner and director of industries and commerce.

Accordingly, Pradeep Yadav, principal secretary in the cooperation, food and consumer protection, has been transferred as principal secretary in the school education department and will now be the boss for Udhayachandran.

Dealing with a PIL for protecting Udhayachandran’s stay in the school education department even as speculation gathered strength of his imminent transfer, the Madras HC had last week ordered that the upright officer should not be transferred.
