No threat to EPS government, says H Raja

Amid the political turmoil in the ruling AIADMK, Mr. Raja on Thursday called on Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the Secretariat here.

Chennai: Asserting that there is no threat to the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government from the “rebel’ MLAs, BJP national secretary H. Raja said the Chief Minister enjoyed the support from the majority in the Assembly.

Amid the political turmoil in the ruling AIADMK, Mr. Raja on Thursday called on Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the Secretariat here. He had also called on Deputy CM O. Panneerselvam and Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture K. Pandiarajan.

“It was a courtesy call. I had extended my greetings to Mr Panneerselvam and Mr Pandiarajan, also,” he told reporters after meeting the CM.

On the chief government whip seeking to disqualify 19 MLAs supporting T. T. V. Dhinakaran, Mr. Raja said the rebel MLAs might stand to lose their membership according to law.

“As per Anti-Defection law, we can say a party suffers a split only when 50 per cent of MLAs do not offer their support. If 19 or 20 MLAs go away, they will only lose their membership,” he said.

Ponnar, Tamilisai flay Oppn parties on Neet
Flaying the DMK’s agitation on the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) here on Thursday, BJP senior and Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan accused the DMK and Congress of deceiving the people on the issue. “Why did the Congress-led UPA government introduce NEET in the first place? Both the DMK and Congress are cheating the people of Tamil Nadu on NEET,” he said dismissing the agitation as a “farce.”

Party’s state president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, who spoke in similar vein, condemned the opposition protest against the court verdict. She said it was high time the opposition parties put an end to the “politics of NEET.” “Tamil Nadu students should be trained to face the test in future,” she said.
