High security for BJP protest in Karnataka
BENGALURU: Protests against demanding action against Amnesty International officials, for holding an ‘anti-national’ event on Kashmiri families, continued on Wednesday and this time it was led by State BJP President B.S. Yeddyurappa and Shobha Kharandlage at Town Hall. A huge contingent of police was deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
As many as 500 people gathered at Town Hall around 11.30 am and raised slogans against the state government for their inability to arrest those behind the event and those who raised slogans denouncing the country. The protest that lasted for an hour affected the traffic near CBD area.
During his addressing Yeddyurappa accused the state government of supporting institutions like Amnesty International, which were encouraging separatism in the country.
The senior BJP leader demanded the state government should ban Amnesty and hand over the investigation to NIA. BJP MPs Shobha Karandlaje, P.C. Mohan and many party legislators participated in the protest.
Meanwhile Union Minister Ananth Kumar has criticised Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh for ‘supporting’ Amnesty International. While addressing a meeting at Morena in Madhya Pradesh, Mr Kumar did not name the organisation, however it was a veiled reference to Amnesty International, whose Indian chapter is facing sedition charges.
